The J.S. Acker Memorial Park was established in September, 1995. James S. Acker was a prominent Prescott business man that generously bequeathed the land to the city for park purposes. The "Friends of J.S. Acker," a non-profit group, remain very active in organizing community involvement to assist the City of Prescott in preserving this memorial park.

Acker Park consists of 75 acres of natural open space and features panoramic views of Thumb Butte, Granite Mountain, San Francisco Peaks and the surrounding area. The park includes hiking trails with interpretive signs, picnic sites, public art projects, and a children's play area, and restrooms.

"I want to make clear and to emphasize my desire that my town - The City of Prescott - and our citizens shall benefit in the fullest measure from the property left them by me."
